The name means 'a jewel' and this cultivar demonstrates that accurately in the autumn. Its spring and summer color is an attractive green. In the fall, the foliage turns a rich pumpkin orange that is unparalleded.

A vigorous grower with a strong, straight central leader, it has brilliant red spring foliage that turns to dark green through summer.

A fairly rapid growing tree, Red Maple is a beautiful addition to the landscape. The showy red flowers appear in spring before the leaves open and put on a great show. Autumn brings outstanding shades of color. Red Maple will perform best in partial shade and moist soils.

The fastest growing species of American Maple, this very hardy native combines graceful form, vigorous growth, and tolerance for a variety of extreme conditions. Foliage provides medium shade, and a nice ornamental effect from the silvery undersides of the leaves.

One look is all you’ll need to see that Fall Fiesta® is superior to the sort. The branching is full and symmetrical. Leathery, glossy, deep green leaves are resistant to leaf tatter and leafhopper damage. A rapid grower, easy to transplant and also resistant to sun scald and frost cracks. Outstanding fall color, shows far more oranges and reds than other Sugar Maples. Prefers a moist yet well-drained soil with a slight acidity for optimum growth.

Upright oval tree with excellent orange-red fall color. Some similarity to Norway in growth rate, branch structure and leaf.

This hybrid of Silver and Red Maple has experienced phenomenal popularity due to its ascending branch habit, rapid growth rate, drought tolerance, ability to grow in most soils, beautiful fall color and form. The palmately compound leaves of this tree are unusual and attractive, especially in the autumn when the fall color is a range of yellows, oranges and reds. Greenish-yellow flowers are produced on large panicles in spring followed by large light brown fruit capsules. 2007 Great Plants for the Great Plains winner.

This small, multi-stemmed tree blooms in early spring with white flower clusters, followed by edible, purplish-blue fruit later in the season. This tree is perfect for naturalistic plantings, especially when mixed with evergreens, to attract birds and wildlife all year round.

This vigorous grower has exfoliating bark that is lighter than River Birch, ranging from tan to creamy white to parchment white. While it tolerates wet, poorly drained soils, it does well in upland soils, and is resistant to bronze birch borer. Clumps have three or more stems. Voted 2002 Urban Tree of the Year by the Society of Municipal Arborists.

This exciting new weeping form of river birch will make a dramatic specimen tree or focal point especially near water features. The tree may be left untrained to form a mounded shrub or staked to promote a central leader with pendulous branches. Adaptable to a wide range of growing conditions including high temperatures and wet soils.

This Caragana arborescens is budded on a standard, resulting in an attractive weeping plant. The finely textured foliage creates a cascading effect, emphasized by the yellow pea-like flowers in spring. This tree is an excellent accent plant for the home landscape.

This interesting tree has dense, redbud-like foliage. Although variable, fall color is attractive - shades of yellow to apricot but primarily yellow in the Midwest. It requires ample moisture during the establishment period. 

A handsome purple leaf variety of redbud. The new foliage emerges a shimmering purple red and changes to a more subdued color as the season progresses. Before the leaves appear the tree is covered with purple-pink flowers, darker than the species. As Forest Pansy matures, it takes on a vase shape and tends to branch low on the trunk.

This adorable small tree has year-round beauty. Blooms of creamy white with 2-4" bracts appear in May and June. Pinkish-red to red fruits ripen in late summer to early fall. The dark green leaves turn intense reddish-purple to scarlet in autumn. Beautiful tree form, with horizontal branching evident in older trees.

Introduced in 1955, this Hawthorn provides white flowers which are followed by red, 3/8" fruit. It fruits heavily when young and retains fruit throughout the winter. The silver-gray bark exfoliates with age.

Excellent as a large shrub or small tree, this desirable landscape plant has small, highly fragrant flowers in spring followed by decorative silver-yellow berries. An excellent xeriscape plant, it is great for use as a windbreak, and is salt and drought tolerant.

Exotic open growth, fan shaped leaves turn brilliant yellow in fall. Grows well in smoke and dust. Free of insects and disease.

This outstanding thornless honeylocust is considered the best by many. A rapid grower, it is known for its straight trunk, symmetrical ascending branches, and dark green foliage. This cultivar is essentially fruitless, with good resistance to drought.

This cultivar is noted for foliage that emerges bright golden-bronze, fades to green as it matures, then colors golden-yellow again in fall. Thornless and seedless, it is great for light, filtered shade.

PeeGee Hydrangea, trained to a single stem with a head, blooms in July and August with very showy, large conical white flowers which change to pink bronze towards autumn. The flower heads dry easily when cut, and are perfect for use in arrangements. Rarely to never fed on by Japanese beetles.

A stately tree for large spaces. Flowers May through early June with attractive green-yellow blossoms that have a tangerine tint at the base of the petals. Attractive yellow fall color. Prefers moist, well-drained and slightly acidic soil. Never or rarely fed on by Japanese beetles.

This hardy Japanese Magnolia remains amoung the most popular. In April its pink buds open to double white fragrant flowers of 25-30 petals, 3-4" diameter. An upright and densely branched plant, it has dark green foliag that shifts to bronze in fall. Prefers full sun.

In spring, this crab blooms about 7 to 10 days later than oriental crabs, and is covered with fragrant, double pink flowers that give it the appearance of being draped in rosebuds. Certainly one of the prettiest red-leafed crabapples we've seen. Has a better summer color and appearance than most red-leaf crabapples. Abundant magenta-pink blossoms stand out handsomely against reddish-purple, cutleaf foliage. Shows good resistance to fireblight.

This Robert Simpson introduction has dark green foliage and beautiful fruit of glossy red that changes to golden orange. The fruit of this disease resistant crab persists all winter and attracts birds. Light pink flowers.

This attractive weeping crab bears red buds that open to true pink flowers, dark glossy green foliage, and persistent golden yellow fruit with a slight blush in fall. It is resistant to disease and Japanese Beetle.

This small crab is noted for its abundance of deep red buds that open to purple-red flowers, then fade to lavender. The immature foliage emerges purple, then fades to bronze-green. The persistent fruit is oxblood red.

A seedling found at Beverly Nursery in Ohio. Naturally weeping form, similar to Louisa and burgundy-green foliage much like Prairiefire. Pink flowers cover the pendulous branches each spring on this graceful small tree. Attractive dark red fruit.

This fruitless Canadian introduction is completely covered with pink buds that open to fragrant white flowers in spring. It has bright green, shiny foliage and good heat tolerance.

This compact, upright spreader has deep purple leaves and delicate pink flowers which appear before the foliage. Resistant to fireblight, this COPF introduction was discovered by Percy Wright of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

This dwarf spreading crab has attractive lobed, dark green foliage. Fragrant, 3/4 to 1" diameter flowers are pink in bud and open to white. The small bright red fruits are favored by birds.

This beautiful deciduous conifer has a pyramidal to conical habit, and fine feathery texture. Once thought to be extinct, it was rediscovered in China in the 1940's, and then introduced to the world through seeds collected on an Arnold Arboretum expedition.

This tree form ninebark has amazing color. Bright burgundy-red foliage adds color all season long and the new leaves emerge with a glowing yellow-green color. Flowers in spring with creamy-white blossoms. Especially nice with yellow foliage plants.

An outstanding example of our national tree, the White Oak is strong, disease resistant, and drought tolerant. The foliage is deep green above and white underneath. 2000 Gold Medal Plant® Award winner.

This rapid growing, native oak is widely used as a boulevard tree. The many-lobed, sharply pointed leaves hang on the tree into winter. Pin oak prefers full sun and moist, rich, well-drained soil. It does not tolerate alkaline soils.

This Sheridan Nursery selection has a sturdy, more compact, oval growth habit than Japanese tree lilac. A most attractive small flowering tree with cherry-like bark, it bears large creamy white flower clusters in early July. It will perform best in full sun. (C®)

This McKay Nursery introduction was selected for its uniform branching habit and upright narrow form. This is an excellent nursery tree and makes up well as a young B&B tree. Use it in the landscape for boulevards and smaller yards where space is at a premium, but shade is required. The distinctive bark is silvery gray especially when the plant is immature and is very attractive. American Sentry® is the most resistant linden to Japanese beetle.

Selected at Bailey Nurseries, this Tilia cordata cultivar is somewhat similar to Greenspire®, but with stouter branching and a more open canopy. An excellent choice for home landscapes, it displays more vigorous growth than Greenspire® in the nursery, with excellent, uniform branching all around the trunk, and slightly larger foliage.
